West Azerbaijan’s First Tobacco-Free Hospital Hosts Cultural Event for Tobacco-Free Week

Coinciding with Tobacco-Free Week, Omid Charity Hospital in Urmia, as the first tobacco-free hospital in West Azerbaijan, organized a cultural event aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle, preventing tobacco use, and enhancing children’s health literacy, through the efforts of the Environmental Health Unit.

According to the Public Relations Department of Omid, the ceremony was held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, in the hospital grounds with the presence of patients’ children and staff members. During the program, after refreshments were served, the children gathered around a large painting table and depicted their artwork on the theme of “The Harms of Smoking and Other Tobacco Products.” They also became familiar with the consequences of tobacco use and its role in causing various diseases, especially cancer.

Omid Charity Hospital, as a specialized cancer treatment center, emphasizing the fact that tobacco use causes at least 15 types of cancer, held this event under the slogan “Extinguish Cancer.” Continuing its mission as the first tobacco-free hospital in the province, and under the slogan “A New Perspective, A New Breath, A New Hope,” it takes steps toward raising awareness, prevention, and reducing tobacco consumption in society.

The program was held in the presence of Engineer Salehi, Head of Public Relations at the Health Center; Engineer Khosravipour, Tobacco Program Expert at the Health Center; and Engineer Abbasnejad, Health Education Program Expert at the Health Center.
