The West Azerbaijan Charity Association for Supporting Cancer Patients (Omid) is a non-governmental organization established in 1990 in response to the widespread prevalence of cancer, economic and cultural deprivation, and the shortage of medical facilities in the region. It was founded to address the medical, financial, and emotional challenges caused by this major issue, and today, with the support of public donations, it has been able to provide valuable services in treatment, social work, and cancer prevention.
Omid Hospital and Research & Treatment Center is one of the achievements of the association’s members and supporters. Since the first phase began operating in 1996, it has served a large number of patients from the province, neighboring provinces, and visitors from nearby countries such as Iraq, Turkey, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.
At the World Cancer Day conference held in Tehran in February 2013, the association was selected as one of the country’s top NGOs in the field of cancer and received a plaque of honor and a trophy from UNESCO.
Omid Charity has also received the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System certificate from D.A.S and the UKAS accreditation body in the United Kingdom. In 2017, at the International Hospital Construction Congress, it received an honor trophy and was recognized among the top five hospital-building charities in Iran.
