The second general assembly of Iran's national network of community organizations and cancer charities took place in Tehran, hosted by Ashura Relief Charity and attended by a majority of members. The chair reported on the network's principal activities and the treasurer presented its financial report for the first two-year term. The chief executive and board inspector also delivered reports, and the assembly approved the network's performance report.
With the first board's statutory term ending, an election selected Omid, Behnam Daheshpour, Noor, Mahak, Farhad, Vali-e Asr and Ashura Relief as full board members. The national network comprises 45 organizations active in cancer care.
Omid was established in West Azerbaijan in 1369, Solar Hijri, in response to widespread cancer, economic and cultural deprivation and shortages of medical facilities. In its twenty-ninth year, public donations continued to support treatment, social work and cancer prevention. The first phase of the Omid Research and Treatment Centre has served many patients since 1375, including residents of neighboring provinces and visitors from Iraq, Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
At the World Cancer Day gathering in Tehran in Bahman 1392, Omid was recognized among the country's leading cancer community organizations and received a UNESCO certificate and commemorative award. It also became the first Iranian cancer NGO certified to ISO 9001:2008 by D.A.S with UKAS accreditation, and was recognized among five exemplary hospital-building charities at the 1396 International Hospital Construction Congress.
On Wednesday, 19 Tir 1398, Omid accepted a board role alongside organizations such as Mahak and Behnam Daheshpour, sharing responsibility for guiding the National Cancer Network. Thank you for being with us.
