In a hospital, electricity is a lifeline. Even a brief outage can endanger patients receiving sensitive treatment. Essential equipment, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and care systems all depend on a reliable supply.
Omid Hospital, built and equipped through public donations and serving people with cancer throughout northwestern Iran, urgently needs a second generator rated at 800 kilowatts. The national 'Keep the Light of Hope On' campaign invites donors to help maintain uninterrupted care during crises and power cuts through Omid's official website.
The hospital has long provided advanced cancer care at charitable rates. Supported patients pay nothing for cancer treatment, while other service users benefit from social work assistance. Alongside specialist treatment and complex surgery, Omid offers medicines, financial assistance, reduced tariffs and free accommodation and meals for patients from other cities and their companions.
Hospital president Dr Sinaei warns that the current 500-kilowatt diesel generator is below the hospital's actual demand of around 550 kilowatts or more. Prolonged outages place it under severe pressure and risk excessive wear, breakdown and interrupted cancer care. Patients already facing pain, fatigue and uncertainty should not have to face this additional danger.
Omid's technical office explains that, for stable operation, a generator should work at no more than approximately 70% of rated output. The current generator must operate near full capacity. The report also cites national civil-defense instructions requiring hospitals to have two power inputs, two transformers and two sufficiently powerful emergency generators. An 800-kilowatt generator would improve supply resilience.
The estimated purchase, installation and commissioning cost is 18 billion tomans. The invoice can be provided transparently to donors. Raising this sum is difficult for a charity dependent on public support, so the campaign invites individuals, companies and community organizations to participate.
Hospital reports for 1404, Solar Hijri, show around 200 radiotherapy visitors monthly, over 42,000 radiotherapy services annually and more than 2,700 new patients and service recipients each year. Seventy-five percent of inpatients have cancer. About 14,500 patients receive chemotherapy annually, with over 30,000 chemotherapy services delivered.
Financial reports record more than 301 billion rials of assistance with medicines and patient equipment, over 156 billion rials supporting inpatients, around 67 billion rials for food and accommodation at Omid Residence and over 1,912 billion rials in treatment tariff reductions. Thousands of people also receive social work assistance. These figures reflect comprehensive support for patients and families.
The service area extends beyond one city. Patients travel from many Iranian cities and neighboring countries, including Iraq, Turkey and Azerbaijan. Accommodation, medicine assistance and reduced treatment costs make Omid an important refuge for people with limited resources.
The campaign will fund the second generator so treatment can continue during power cuts. Omid's chief executive says the voluntary board remains determined, after more than 35 years of supporting people with cancer, to keep hope alive during these difficult days, relying as always on public generosity.
You can contribute through Omid's official online donation page or transfer a donation to card number 6104337619058355. Sharing the campaign with friends, colleagues and family is also valuable. Every contribution, however small, can help keep equipment running and treatment continuing. For patients in intensive care or sensitive treatment, even a brief interruption can matter.
This campaign invites everyone to help protect the lives and hope of thousands of people with cancer. With your support, the light of hope at Omid Hospital will remain on. Omid means life. Omid Charity Public Relations.
