Urmia Municipality and the “Omid” Charity Association for Supporting Cancer Patients in West Azerbaijan have begun a joint path for cancer awareness and promoting social responsibility in the urban space by signing a cooperation memorandum of understanding.
According to Omid Public Relations, this memorandum was signed in the context of implementing joint campaigns aimed at raising public awareness among Urmia citizens about prevention methods and early cancer diagnosis by utilizing the city’s cultural and media capacities; purposeful use of urban spaces and media to promote humane, hopeful, and responsible health messages; supporting the social and financial sustainability of Omid Charity’s humanitarian activities by providing legitimate information and advertising platforms; and reducing municipality-related costs in the association’s development projects aimed at strengthening medical services for needy cancer patients.
The Mayor of Urmia, after hearing the report from the members of the Board of Directors and the CEO of Omid Charity regarding the medical and support services provided to needy patients in the province, said: “A healthy city begins with an aware city, and we believe that the city must serve the lives and well-being of its people so that hope finds meaning.”
Dr. Aydin Rahmani stated: “My presence at Omid means that I see cancer as one of the most serious human concerns of the city, and I consider it not merely a medical issue but a cultural issue related to lifestyle, defeating which requires empathy, public awareness, and accepting social responsibility.”
The Mayor of Urmia added: “By signing this memorandum, Urmia Municipality declares that a city can simultaneously be beautiful, aware, kind, and healthy.”
At the end of the meeting, after signing the cooperation memorandum, Dr. Rahmani, Mayor of Urmia, received the “Omid Ambassador” badge from Dr. Khashabi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Omid Charity, in appreciation of his cooperation in the humanitarian goals of the association.
